Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Awareness, Prevention and Response Course

Introduction

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is one of the most pervasive human rights violations globally, affecting individuals across all ages, genders, and socio-economic backgrounds. This course is designed to equip participants with comprehensive knowledge, practical skills, and response strategies to prevent, identify, and address GBV in diverse settings including communities, workplaces, and institutions.

Despite increased awareness, GBV continues to persist due to deep-rooted social norms, inequality, weak legal enforcement, and limited survivor support systems. This course addresses these challenges by providing participants with a structured understanding of GBV forms, causes, consequences, and prevention strategies rooted in human rights and survivor-centered approaches.

The course provides an in-depth exploration of GBV frameworks, international conventions, and national legal instruments that guide prevention and response efforts. Participants will learn how to apply these frameworks in real-life situations to support survivors, strengthen referral systems, and promote accountability within institutions and communities.

A strong focus is placed on practical response mechanisms, including case management, psychosocial support, legal referral pathways, and safeguarding systems. Participants will gain skills in designing and implementing survivor-centered interventions that prioritize dignity, safety, and confidentiality.

Emerging issues such as online gender-based violence, conflict-related sexual violence, economic abuse, and the role of technology in GBV prevention are integrated into the curriculum. These topics ensure participants are prepared to respond to evolving forms of violence in both physical and digital spaces.

Through case studies, simulations, and practical exercises, participants will gain hands-on experience in GBV prevention and response. By the end of the course, participants will be able to design and implement effective GBV programs that promote safety, justice, and protection for all.
